1. Adequate information, depending on the nature of your personal website. How personal is personal? That depends on the nature of your website. If it is a blog site where you seek to share your innermost thoughts and sentiments, you can probably just limit the info up to what you want your readers to know, probably just some random facts of not much consequence. If it is a personal profile website, however, where you seek to land jobs, assignments and projects, like a model portfolio or an online resume, then providing sufficient info about your professional background, skills and credentials will be the best way to go.
2. Lots of photographs, good photographs. It may be photographs of you, or photographs by you, or photographs of others expressing your sentiments. Again, it would depend on the purpose of your website but it is a major trend in web design today to include vivid photographs that make websites really pretty. If you choose to set up a website using free website templates there are actually thousands now available fully loaded with beautiful photographs.
3. An ‘about me’ page as well as a hip comment page. You will do better if you know what website visitors think about your website. That way you know how to improve, modify or update your web design in a way that best suits your personal website and at the same time caters to your intended website audience.
4. Great, useful links. A personal website should, above all, provide some kind of reflection on the website owner – you. Be it about your credentials, your hobbies or your special talents, keep in mind that the web is rich with other related websites that may provide useful resources likewise to your website visitors. Take the opportunity to provide links and make an effort likewise to suggest to other websites and help provide links to your own.
